Rusape Farmers resort to riverbank farming

Rusape farmers introducing gardens near Rusape River banks .

Rusape residents and farmers are constructing gardening structures near Rusape River to have access to water in the almost dry Rusape river to water their plants.

Speaking with this publication the farmers represented by Mr Nyekete said that since old gardens are drying up and residents are struggling to have vegetables , they found it wise to introduce gardening and  farming near rivers.

The local farmers are using pumps to water their crops and they are pumping the water from Rusape River.

Speaking with Mr Mheyamwa, the Sadunhu, he said that farming is helping our locals but the problem is that the water in Rusape River is little and we are fearing it will dry anytime soon and the irrigation will suffer .

Mheyamwa said that the farmers are being arrested by environment   team which is forbidding cutting down of trees and water banks cultivation. The residents confirmed they  are happy because they have where to buy vegetables and  are looking for areas were they can start farming themselves.

Speaking with headman Hera who said that people are destroying the vegetation as they are planting in our animals grazing lands and we will end up having problems with grazing lands , residents are solving problems with other problems.

This issue has divided villagers and it is to be addressed by Chief Tandi in the annual traditional court of June 2024.
