Rural Residents Drill Boreholes to Prevent Water Borne Diseases

    Borehole Drilling to stop the
     spread of diseases.

Rusape residents under Chief Tandi are raising money on their own to drill a borehole and to buy a water  tank in the community to stop the water shortage and the spread of waterborne diseases.

Spiwe Bhuraki a girl who lives with  her 81 year old sick grandmother said that the borehole drilling will help her have plenty time to help her granny and enough water to wash her blankets as she uses napkins.

Headman Mheyamwa commented that it is a great initiative for the community raise their funds to drill the borehole after most of residents were affected by the water from rivers and they were having running stomach as the community is full of elderly who are being taken care of by children,  who have no time to walk long distances in search of water.

Granny Musike said the borehole was drilled after they raised 5 dollars per individual and they are happy because they know what the money worked for and they are going to protect their borehole and they are raising funds that will  repair  it and drill another borehole in the area .

Young girls are affected, often tasked
    with fetching water from distant
    boreholes, carrying heavy buckets on
their heads. This not only affects their
education and future prospects but also
puts them at risk of physical harm and
    exploitation.

    Mrs Agere, a community women
leader and mother of three said women
and children especially girls are the most
affected by the water crisis .

She said this challenge has to be dealt
with immediately for it is taking a heavy
toll on young girls of school going age.

"As a woman, I know how painful it is to
see our children suffer from waterborne
diseases and exploitation due to this
crisis. Young girls are the most affected
We need clean water for our children's
future, and we need it now," she said.

Fore Donald commented that borehole drilling also helps young boys not to walk long distances to rivers to give domestic animals water but at the borehole they are cements pots which are always filled with water to feed the community domestic animals.
