Jailed for illegal possession of Ivory.
A 26 year old Dunmore Teta stand before the Harare magistrates court after he was found in possession of raw Ivory.
On the 26th of January 2024 at 1200.hours midday the police received a tipoff to the effect that the accused person was in possession of Ivory in Tynwald North Harare.
Teta was looking for buyers of Ivory in Tynward , the police was tipped and pretended to be potential buyers.
They arranged to meet with the accused person along Kirkman road.
The accused person met with the one of the police detectives who camouflaged himself as a buyer of Ivory.
Teta showed the detective two pieces of elephant tusks which were stashed in a satchel, and agreed to sell the tusks at usd60 per kg.
The other police detectives pounced on the accused person and asked him to produce a permit granting him authority to be in possession of the Ivory.
He failed to show permit and that led to his arrest , the detectives recoved Ivory which weighed 2,03kgs .
Teta was convicted and sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.
