University Student Stabbed by Boyfriend After Late Return from Party

Harare, Zimbabwe

A 25-year-old university student is in critical condition at a hospital in Harare following a violent attack by her boyfriend over her late return from a party.

Audrey Nyasha Rwambiwa, a student at the Women University in Africa, was stabbed multiple times by her boyfriend, Webster Mubata, at their shared apartment in the Avenues area.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning after Audrey returned home at approximately 3 a.m. from a gathering at a friend's house. This late return reportedly angered Webster, leading him to physically assault her with clenched fists before escalating to the use of a kitchen knife.

According to reports, Webster stabbed Audrey in several places, including her left breast, finger, arm, and ribs. As the assault continued, Audrey fled to the bathroom, where Webster followed her and inflicted more injuries on her back and left shoulder.

In a desperate bid for safety, Audrey managed to lock herself in the bathroom, later breaking a window to escape and call for help from nearby neighbors. The neighbors responded promptly and took her to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the ongoing investigation into the attempted murder case. He stated, “Police are investigating an attempted murder case involving a university student who was stabbed by her lover. The suspect fled the scene after the attack. The complainant has sustained multiple wounds and is currently hospitalized.”

Authorities are appealing for any information that may lead to the arrest of Webster Mubata.
