Tragedy struck in Gutuza, Rusape, where a 3-year-old boy drowned in a fish pond at his grandmother's lover's house.
Miriam Chaitezvi stated that she had visited her boyfriend with her 3-year-old nephew, the son of her daughter. While she was inside the house with her lover, the child wandered to the pond and drowned.
A plastic bottle was found in the pool, leading them to believe that the child had been trying to retrieve it when he drowned.
The boy's mother is currently in Harare, seeking better opportunities to support her child, as the father is not providing support.
Neighbors have commented on Miriam's relationship, suggesting that, at her age, she should focus on raising her grandchildren rather than pursuing romantic affairs.
The case is currently under police investigation. Headman Gutuza has urged women to be more attentive to their children, as cases of drowning are increasing.
