Armed robbers blow open Mukuru safe in Chivi, get away with US$31,000

Four armed men raided N. Richards Wholesalers at Chivi Growth Point in the early hours, escaping with US$31,000 and ZAR111,000 from a Mukuru Financial Services safe.

The attack occurred around 4am. Police say the gang tied up Fawcett Security guard Taurai Chikuni before using explosives to force open the Mukuru safe.

They also attempted to break into a second safe belonging to N. Richards but failed.

No one was injured in the raid. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dewa said investigations were ongoing under RRB 6739843.

He confirmed officers had not yet received a full briefing at the time of publication.

The incident follows a similar robbery in Murambinda days earlier, where armed suspects drilled into a bank vault and stole cash.

Police say the pattern points to more coordinated attacks targeting rural businesses.
