Gokwe Man Jailed 16 Years for Rape, Runyoka Claim Rejected
A Gokwe court has sentenced Barbington Musekiwa, 32, to 16 years in prison for raping a 17-year-old schoolgirl.
Musekiwa, a polygamist from Gokwe South, had claimed his first wife had "locked" him, making him impotent and unable to commit the crime.
The victim bravely fought off Musekiwa's advances on March 13, 2026, and identified him despite his attempt to flee.
A medical affidavit provided irrefutable proof of the rape.
Magistrate Stanford Mambanje dismissed Musekiwa's "runyoka" defense, emphasizing that traditional beliefs can't justify violence.
The sentence serves as a warning to those using cultural myths to excuse their crimes.
Musekiwa was also found guilty of escaping from lawful custody
. The community of Gokwe South welcomes the verdict, removing a predator from their midst.
