Case Against Bellarmine Mugabe Postponed to April 17
The case involving Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze has been postponed to April 17, 2026, after the State informed the court that plea negotiations are still ongoing.
The two men remain in custody following the postponement, with prosecutors indicating that discussions toward a plea agreement have not yet been finalised, despite earlier suggestions that a deal was imminent.
Presiding over the matter, the magistrate cautioned both the defence and the prosecution against further delays, stressing that the case must proceed on the next scheduled date without fail.
Mugabe and Matonhodze are facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, stemming from an incident in mid-February in the Hyde Park area. It is alleged that a 23-year-old gardener was shot in the back at a private property during the incident.
In addition to attempted murder, the accused are also charged with firearm-related offences, defeating the ends of justice, and alleged violations of immigration laws.
Earlier this month, both Mugabe and Matonhodze withdrew their bail applications, citing complications arising from the immigration-related charges linked to the case.
The matter is expected to resume on April 17, where the court anticipates either the conclusion of plea negotiations or the commencement of trial proceedings.
