Woman Arrested for Deceiving Teenage Girl into Living as 'Husband and Wife'
*Epworth, Zimbabwe* – An incident that has shocked the community unfolded in Epworth, where an 18-year-old woman, Shamiso Melinda Sigara, was arrested for allegedly deceiving a 16-year-old girl into believing she was a man. Sigara has been charged with aggravated indecent assault and appeared in court over the weekend.
According to the State, the situation began in November of the previous year when Sigara approached the teenager and presented herself as a man, expressing her love for the girl. The minor, swayed by the romance, accepted the proposal.
The turning point came on February 12, when Sigara allegedly convinced the teenager to leave her home and move in with her, promising a life together as husband and wife. The young girl complied, leaving behind her family to begin a new life with Sigara.
However, the situation took a disturbing turn when, during the night, Sigara is accused of inserting an unidentified object into the complainant’s private parts while continuing the ruse of possessing male genitalia.
The complainant eventually confided in her mother about the incident, leading to a police report being filed the following day. In her report, the girl expressed her suspicions that Sigara was, in fact, a woman masquerading as a man.
Following the report, Shamiso Melinda Sigara was arrested and has been remanded in custody while awaiting bail considerations. She did not enter a plea during her court appearance before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa.
This case has drawn significant attention from the community and raises serious questions about the protection of minors and the complexities of consent and identity. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation as the case unfolds.
