Zimdancehall Singer Ras Pompy Jailed for Possession of Illegal Medicines

Popular Zimdancehall singer Ras Pompy, whose real name is Nyasha Reginald Mano, has been sentenced to six months in prison for unlawful possession of cough syrups. The 24-year-old musician was convicted under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act after a high-speed chase that ended in his arrest.

According to reports, detectives from the CID Drugs Unit in Harare spotted Ras Pompy's black Honda Fit on July 16, 2025, and signaled him to pull over. However, he sped off into the Rugare suburb, prompting a chase. The pursuit ended when his vehicle hit a metal pole, allowing the detectives to apprehend him. A search of the vehicle revealed a substantial quantity of restricted cough syrups, including
-24 bottles of 100ml Broncleer cough syrup
-20 bottles of 100ml Benylin cough syrup
-55 bottles of 100ml Astra Pain cough syrup

The total street value of the seized cough syrups was estimated at US$396. Both the drugs and the Honda Fit were confiscated by the police.

This incident is not Ras Pompy's first brush with controversy. In September 2024, he was embroiled in a scandalous attempted murder case involving a love triangle with his friend's mother. The latest conviction and jail sentence will likely have a significant impact on his career

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) emphasized that cases like Ras Pompy's highlight the serious consequences of choosing the drug trade over honest living. Drug abuse and illegal trafficking continue to devastate communities across Zimbabwe, and the NPAZ is committed to cracking down on such offenses
