Zimbabwe's National Prosecuting Authority Cracks Down on Drug Abuse
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse in the country on yesterday's press statement. 

Recently, nine Chinese nationals were sentenced for using cocaine and are awaiting deportation.

 The authority emphasized its dedication to diligently and fairly prosecuting all criminal cases, ensuring individuals are held accountable regardless of nationality or status.

 The NPAZ will prioritize efficient and effective prosecution of drug-related offenses, pursuing stiffer sentences that reflect the severity of these crimes.
 
 The authority aims to promote a just and fair system, upholding principles of equity, fairness, and impartiality in addressing the significant threat of drug abuse to national 

 The NPAZ faced a backlog of over 9,000 drug-related cases in 2023 due to police delays in providing test results.

 At least 315 people were convicted for drug-related cases involving crystal methamphetamine (mutoriro) since January, with Harare Province leading with 164 cases and 27 convictions.

Over 10,000 people have been arrested in Zimbabwe's crackdown on drug abuse, with more than 50 drug dens dismantled since the start of the year.

The government is enforcing the plan to combat substance abuse, addressing public health, socio-economic, and national security challenges.

 A ZWL$500 million fund was unveiled to aid in the fight against drug abuse, focusing on rehabilitation, treatment, and prevention.

 Initiatives aim to empower youths through skills training and information communication technology (ICT) skills to prevent substance dependency .
