Stanbic Bank Theft Couple Convicted
An elderly couple, from Bulawayo Francisca Netsai Sibanda and Frank Sibanda, both 65, were sentenced yesterday by the Tredgold Regional Magistrate Court for embezzling over $34,000 from Stanbic Bank.
The theft occurred after an erroneous deposit was made into Francisca's bank account following a failed POS transaction.
According to the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe, the couple withdrew the cash and made purchases in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, knowing they were not entitled to the money.
They were found guilty of theft and sentenced to 7 years in prison, with 4 years suspended for each.
The remaining 3 years will also be suspended if they repay the full amount by June 30, 2025.
