Court grants bail to duo operating illegal camp.
Tafadzwa Chidawa, (36), and Clara Manyepera,( 38), appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court on Friday, facing charges related to the operation of an unregistered private voluntary organization and impersonation of child protection officers.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the state alleges that Chidawa and Manyepera established and operated the Matrix Disciplinary and Training Camp in New Marlborough, Harare, without necessary registration and licensing required by the Private Voluntary Organizations Act.
The camp, located at 2165 Tokwane Close, allegedly aimed to rehabilitate children with delinquency issues.
Authorities claim that the duo admitted two youths to the camp starting from December 6, 2023, and offered services legally reserved for qualified individuals, including counseling, supervision, and control.
Video footage of their training sessions was presented as evidence.
The state further alleges that Chidawa and Manyepera were impersonating child protection officers, breaking the Children's Act.
The Harare Magistrates Court granted bail to Chidawa and Manyepera, each in the amount of $300.
They are scheduled to appear in court again on April 20.
