Rusape Rural District Council has mandated all headmen in Makoni Rural District to collect taxes from each household. The tax, also known as "Beto," is set at $5 per year. Villagers have been given a three-week period to pay their tax arrears for 2023 to 2025.
Those who fail to pay the tax will not receive inputs, and the chief and state authorities will decide on further action.
Headmen are required to keep records of tax payments for future reference. Tax receipts must be attached to a certified photocopy of the payer's national identity document.
According to the Rusape Rural District Council spokesperson, paying tax is mandatory for everyone. The collected tax will be used to cover additional costs for the council and to purchase bicycles for village headmen in Makoni Rural District.
