Council Purchasing Bicycles for Headmen
Rusape Rural District Council has promised to provide bicycles to headmen to facilitate easier transportation.
In his report, the Rusape District Council spokesperson stated that these bicycles will improve the mobility of headmen in their respective wards, as some of them currently walk long distances, especially when attending monthly meetings and receiving inputs or welfare food such as wheat.
The bicycles will be particularly beneficial as most headmen are elderly, and walking long distances has become challenging for them.
Masvingo City to Provide Motorbikes for Councillors
Meanwhile, Masvingo City has announced plans to provide motorbikes to councillors. This was revealed during a Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting held in January 2025.
The councillors will receive loans to purchase the motorbikes, which they will repay while in office. Additionally, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works will provide councillors with allowances and perks, including a five-year motorbike loan facility.
Masvingo councillors will receive Honda 125cc motorbikes at an average price of USD 2,500 per motorbike, translating to a total cost of USD 30,000—excluding the mayor, who has an official vehicle for use in carrying out official duties.
These initiatives by city councils aim to enhance the mobility of local leaders within their respective wards.
