Woman Abandons Family for Lover
Mercy Zibanga abandoned her family, including her 13-year-old disabled daughter and her husband, who was paralyzed after an accident, to be with her lover.
Her husband was the primary provider for the family, while Mercy spent most of her days at home drinking beer. At night, she would leave the family behind and go to her lover's house.
The husband became paralyzed after falling into a borehole, where his backbone cracked, leaving him unable to walk. He now moves by dragging himself using his buttocks.
A 10-year-old granddaughter is the one taking care of the family.
Villagers have been providing food, firewood, and mealie meal to help them. However, Mercy would come to collect whatever was donated. To prevent this, the villagers now give the supplies to Headman Ziweya, who only provides what is needed for the day.
When confronted, Mercy said she could not live with a man who is not sexually capable.
The husband suspects that Mercy's lover was involved in his accident, as he believes someone pushed him into the borehole while he was fetching water in January, which led to his paralysis.
