Here’s a hard news story drawn from the details you shared about the Budiriro sewer incident:

Three bodies recovered from Budiriro sewer works site as rescue turns into recovery operation

Three people died after falling into a mud hole at a City of Harare sewer works site in Budiriro, turning what began as a single-person rescue into a multiple recovery operation.

City of Harare officials said emergency services were alerted on Sunday after reports that a man walking home had fallen into the mud hole. A sub-aqua team led by Victor Kazembe, known as Coach Rambo, and the City Fire Brigade were deployed to the site.

During the operation, teams first retrieved the body of a young woman who had been reported missing the previous evening.

Kazembe then recovered a second body, a man who was not the individual initially reported missing. The third body recovered was that of the young man reported to have fallen into the mud pool.

Volunteer group ConCERT assisted with coordination at the scene alongside the Fire Brigade.

Deputy Mayor Rose Muronda, disaster risk management chairperson Cllr Jane Bhingari, and councillors Pedzesai and Dzinomurumbi remained at the site assisting until the early hours of Monday.

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has ordered an immediate investigation into the deaths and requested answers within hours.

Police have also launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The City of Harare expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns around open pits and unsecured sewer works sites in Harare.

The investigation is expected to examine site fencing, warning signage, and emergency response procedures.
