Nation Gathers at Maphisa Stadium for 46th Uhuru Celebrations
Thousands of citizens from across Zimbabwe converged at Maphisa Stadium to mark the country’s 46th Uhuru (Independence) Celebrations, held under the theme “Zimbabwe@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.” The event brought together government officials, traditional leaders, security services, cultural groups, and community members in a vibrant display of national pride and unity.
Proceedings began with the arrival of dignitaries, followed by a colourful parade by the uniformed forces and schoolchildren. The stadium came alive with traditional dances, music performances, and poetry that reflected Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and the spirit of independence.
In his keynote address, the President emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and collective effort in driving the country towards the goals set out in Vision 2030. He applauded citizens for their resilience and called for renewed commitment to national development, innovation, and community empowerment.
Cultural troupes from various provinces showcased traditional performances, symbolizing diversity and national cohesion. Exhibitions around the venue highlighted local entrepreneurship, agricultural innovation, and youth-led projects contributing to economic growth.
The commemorations also honored liberation war heroes and heroines whose sacrifices paved the way for independence in 1980. Moments of reflection were observed as the nation paid tribute to its history while looking ahead to a future of shared prosperity.
The event was broadcast live by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, allowing citizens across the country and in the diaspora to follow the celebrations.
As festivities continued into the afternoon, the atmosphere remained jubilant, with families, youths, and elders united in celebration of Zimbabwe’s independence and aspirations for continued development.
