Man Fatally Stabbed While Relieving Himself Near Munyaradzi High School
A 42-year-old man from Rimuka, Kadoma, died after he was allegedly stabbed by two unknown assailants while relieving himself in a bushy area near Munyaradzi High School.
John Nazaza succumbed to his injuries at Kadoma General Hospital following the attack, which occurred last week around 7pm.
According to family spokesperson Leo Nazaza, the deceased had complained of a running stomach and left home to relieve himself at a nearby bush along Makufa Street in Ward 3. The area, situated close to Munyaradzi High School, is reportedly used by residents after local toilets became blocked and unusable.
“He told us he was going to the bush as usual because the toilets have not been working for some time,” said Leo. “He carried his small cellphone to use as a torch and passed through some tuckshops on his way.”
Moments later, the family received word that John was lying in a pool of blood. Relatives rushed to the scene and found him severely injured but still alive.
“He managed to tell us that two young men had attacked him just as he was about to relieve himself. They stabbed him and stole his cellphone before fleeing towards the railway line,” Leo added.
He was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The family believes that the lack of functional ablution facilities contributed to the tragic incident.
“If our toilets were working properly, John would not have gone to the bush. He lost his life because there is no proper toilet system along Makufa Street,” said Leo.
John Nazaza was buried on Saturday at Rimuka Cemetery.
Ward 3 Councillor Albert Chitsa expressed condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledged the ongoing sanitation challenges in the area.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life in such a tragic manner. The toilets along Makufa and surrounding areas have indeed not been functioning properly,” he said.
Chitsa added that the city authorities have prioritised resolving the issue.
“We have strengthened our plumbing teams to clear the persistent blockages and plans are underway to install new and larger pipes in Ward 3 to prevent future sewer problems,” he said.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
