19 year old faces charges of dumping an infant.

A 19-year-old mother, Nothabo Ndlovu, is facing charges of exposing an infant after allegedly dumping her one-week-old baby in a bush near ZIMRA flats in Plumtree.

The baby was born on August 23, 2025, at Plumtree District Hospital, and Ndlovu was discharged on September 4, 2025. She reportedly abandoned the baby in a bushy area along Sevaka Road around 6 pm the same day.

Fortunately, a passerby found the baby the following day at 11 am and reported the incident to the police.

The baby was taken to Plumtree District Hospital for care and was admitted. Investigations led to Ndlovu's arrest, during which she admitted to the act and identified the baby as hers.

Nothabo Ndlovu has been remanded in custody until September 10, 2025, and is being prosecuted by Ruth Ncube.

This case highlights the importance of supporting young mothers and providing resources for infant care.

In Zimbabwe, organizations like the Sandra Jones Centre in Bulawayo provide safe homes for orphans and abandoned babies, offering accommodation, food, education, counseling, and family support.
