In a chilling turn of events, Zimbabwean investigative journalist Watson Munyaka shared a poignant social media post just days before his tragic murder. The post, which has gone viral, urged people to respect the dead and refrain from exploiting their struggles for content.
Munyaka, a researcher at Dug Up, a publication known for its hard-hitting exposes, was allegedly abducted and thrown from a moving vehicle in Marondera. His death has sent shockwaves through the journalism community.
In his final post, Munyaka wrote: "If you have things you couldn’t say when they were alive, then don’t say it when they’re dead too...Don’t make content out of what people were going through and they confide in you."
Munyaka's colleague, Maynard Manyowa, confirmed the journalist's murder, describing him as a "brother, friend, and rock behind the scenes." Manyowa expressed concerns that Munyaka's murder may be linked to his investigative work.
