Rusape water shortage worsens.
Residents of Rusape are suffering as the water challenge is increasing leaving local villagers walking long distances and drinking water from uncovered sources.
Headman Ziweya said water shortage has decreased 2 months ago when people were using water from the Borehole , overpopulation is leaving villagers in water shortage as the Borehole is covering more than 7 villages with many households.
Mr Ruswa, the one who was put in charge of the Borehole said the queue is long and some end up fetching water at 2300hrs , so the competition is increasing daily as the Borehole is the only covered , clean water source in 7 villages.
Many families are surviving from wells from wetlands which are in the dried rivers and riverbanks .
The villagers are at risk of diseases as the wells are uncovered , the domestic animals are also drinking from those sources as they are also facing water shortages.
Anna Agoshto said water shortage is causing challenges mostly to women and girls as we end up waking long distances, with babies on our back and sometimes hungry just to make sure the family has water to drink and to cook.
Anna Agoshto said shortages of water has contributed to the rise of shortage of relish , vegetables, tomatoes and ladies are now going to a neighbor irrigation to work for vegetables and are given unreasonable work in exchange with a few cabbages and vegetables.
