Blessed Geza's No-Show Puts $1.3 Million Fraud Case Against Basil Nyabadza in Jeopardy

Blessed Geza, a prominent Zanu PF central committee member, has gone into hiding, putting his US$1.3 million fraud case against former Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) boss Basil Nyabadza at risk of collapse. Geza, a vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's bid to extend his term limits, is facing charges of undermining the President's authority and inciting violence.

When Geza's case returned to court, Nyabadza's lawyer, Tazororwa Musarurwa, challenged the state to produce Geza as a witness, threatening to challenge further remand if he fails to appear. The case has been postponed to February 26, pending Geza's appearance.

At the center of the case is a disputed land deal, where Geza alleges that Nyabadza sold his land without authority. The state claims that Geza bought the land from Nyabadza for US$1,362,000 in 2020, but Nyabadza misrepresented the land's title deeds and later sold the same land to Velda Estates.

Nyabadza's lawyer has requested further particulars from the state to prepare his defense. With Geza's absence, the case hangs in the balance, and it remains to be seen whether he will appear in court to testify against Nyabadza.
